Bert Kalmar
Bert Kalmar, born Albert Kalmar on February 16, 1884, in New York City, was a multifaceted entertainer and lyricist renowned for his collaboration with Harry Ruby. Initially, Kalmar's career in show business began as a magician and vaudeville performer. However, a knee injury led him to pivot towards songwriting. He met Harry Ruby at a Tin Pan Alley publishing firm, and in 1918, they formed a prolific songwriting partnership.

Kalmar and Ruby crafted numerous enduring songs, including "Three Little Words," "I Want to Be Loved By You," and "Who's Sorry Now?" Their work became synonymous with the music of the Marx Brothers, contributing to films like "Animal Crackers," "Horse Feathers," and "Duck Soup." The duo also wrote Broadway scores for shows such as "Helen of Troy, N.Y." and "The Five O’Clock Girl."

Their Hollywood career began in 1930, where they continued to produce hit songs and screenplays for various films. Kalmar's contributions to music were recognized posthumously with his induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970. He passed away on September 18, 1947, in Los Angeles, California, leaving a legacy of classic American songs.
