Jim Lea
James Whild Lea, born on June 14, 1949, in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England, is an accomplished English musician known for his role as the bassist in the rock band Slade. Lea's musical journey began with the violin at the age of 10, inspired by jazz-violinist Stéphane Grappelli. He grew up in Bilbrook, where his parents owned The Grange pub, and attended Codsall Comprehensive School. His early musical endeavors included playing guitar and bass in the schoolboy group 'Nick and The Axemen'.

At the age of 16, Lea auditioned for the local band 'The 'N Betweens', joining drummer Don Powell, guitarist Dave Hill, and vocalist Johnny Howells. With the addition of Noddy Holder, the band laid the foundation for what would become Slade. After Howells' departure, the band signed with EMI and released their first single, "You Better Run", in 1966. Under the guidance of Chas Chandler, former manager of Jimi Hendrix, the band transitioned to Fontana Records in 1969, changing their name to Ambrose Slade and recording the album Beginnings. During this period, Lea wrote the song "How Does It Feel" on an old piano at home.

Lea's contributions to Slade extended beyond bass playing; he co-wrote most of the group's songs and occasionally played keyboards, piano, violin, and guitar, also providing backing vocals. His career with Slade spanned from their inception until 1992, and he remains active in music to this day.
