Arthur Preil
Arthur Preil was a German folk singer and humorist born on January 6, 1887, in Leipzig, and he passed away on April 17, 1954, in Leipzig-Engelsdorf. Preil began his career in the arts by writing couplets at a young age, distinguishing himself with performances in the Saxon dialect. He initially trained as a bookseller with Ullstein Publishing in Berlin and later worked as a department head for "Humoristica" at Reclam Publishing in Leipzig. His musical journey began with the Leipzig Krystallpalast-Sängern, and he also ran a music store with his wife in Leipzig.

Preil's recordings were first released by the Isiphon-Schallplattengesellschaft, followed by Deutsche Grammophon and others, resulting in approximately 400 records and numerous radio broadcasts. This extensive output made him one of Germany's most successful humorists. By the mid-1930s, he had established his own touring company, which included performances by the future Kessler Twins as children. After World War II, Preil continued to perform in Leipzig, appearing in variety shows and events organized by the State Concert and Touring Directorate.

Arthur Preil was also a family man; his son, Arthur Preil Jr., followed in his footsteps as a humorist, and his nephew, Hans-Joachim Preil, became a noted author, actor, and cabaret artist. Among Preil's notable works are humorous duets and solo scenes, as well as several books and recordings that highlight his comedic talent and contribution to the folk music scene in Germany.
