Heinrich Poos
Heinrich Poos (born December 25, 1928, in Seibersbach; died August 19, 2020, in Seibersbach) was a German composer, musicologist, and music writer. He was born and raised in an evangelical parsonage. After completing his church music C-exam in Oldenburg in 1946 and his Abitur in Potsdam in 1948, Poos studied at the Berlin Church Music School, completing his state examination in 1954. He then studied composition under Ernst Pepping and conducting at the Hochschule für Musik.
From 1959 to 1963, Poos pursued studies in musicology, philosophy, and theology at the Free University of Berlin, earning a doctorate in 1964. He worked as a cantor and organist in Berlin from 1955 to 1970. Starting in 1965, he taught music theory at the Technical University of Berlin, and from 1971 to 1994, he was a professor at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. He also held guest professorships and teaching assignments at the University of Frankfurt/Main from 1985 onwards. Poos spent his later years living in Berlin and Seibersbach.
His compositions include a variety of choral and instrumental works, such as "Suite nach Texten von Bertolt Brecht," "Du bist aller Quellen Quelle," and "Deutsche Messe." His works were published by various publishers, including Schott International and Merseburger.
