Noordhollands Jongenskoor
The Noordhollands Jongenskoor, or North Holland Boys Choir, was founded in 1977 in Alkmaar, Holland. The choir is renowned for its high quality and is led by its founder and conductor, Hendrik Timmerman. Under Timmerman's guidance, the choir has become a prominent and influential ensemble in Europe. It is the only boys choir in Holland that regularly performs large works such as J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) and Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244). The choir's repertoire spans nearly five centuries and includes works by composers like Josquin, Palestrina, Sweelinck, Schütz, Hassler, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Britten, Elgar, Penderecki, Szymanowska, and Bernstein. Known for performing compositions as they were intended, the choir has received high praise both in Holland and internationally. Their performances, particularly of Bach's Passions, are highly esteemed, and a concert by the Noordhollands Jongenskoor is considered a refined and affecting musical experience.
