Eduard Ebel
Eduard Ebel was born on August 7, 1839, in Stargard and died on January 30, 1905, in Halle (Saale). He studied theology in Königsberg and became a member of the Burschenschaft Germania in 1857. Ebel served as an Oberhelfer at the Rauhes Haus in Hamburg in 1863/1864 and was a pastor for the German-French evangelical community in Beirut from 1866 to 1869. He later worked as a preacher and pastoral care worker in Königsberg and became a pastor in Graudenz in 1872. In 1901, he was appointed superintendent and retired in 1904. Eduard Ebel is best known as the author of the popular Christmas carol "Leise rieselt der Schnee."
