Jozef Zsapka
Jozef Zsapka, born on January 17, 1947, in Komárno, Czechoslovakia, is a distinguished Slovak classical guitarist and educator. He is celebrated as a foundational figure in Slovak guitar performance and has an extensive career as a soloist and ensemble performer. Zsapka has performed globally, sharing stages with prominent orchestras and participating in chamber music settings. He is also known for his collaboration with his wife, flutist Dagmar Zsapka, forming the renowned Duo Zsapka in 1979. This duo has significantly influenced Czechoslovak interpretative art and has performed in numerous countries, including Japan, the USA, and Australia.

Zsapka's contributions extend beyond performance; he is a respected teacher and music director. He founded and organizes the International Guitar Festival "Johann Kaspar Mertz" in Bratislava, a prestigious event attracting guitarists worldwide. As an educator, he holds professorships at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava and the Universidade de Aveiro in Portugal. Zsapka is also an editor of compositions dedicated to him and the duo, and he frequently serves on international guitar competition juries.

His discography includes over 40 recordings, featuring collaborations with various artists and orchestras. Notable works include performances of concertos by Mauro Giuliani and Antonio Vivaldi, and he has been involved in recordings with the Slovak Chamber Orchestra.
