Grigory Kovalevsky
A Soviet and Russian double bassist, he is widely regarded as one of the most famous double bassists in the world.
Born: September 14, 1943.
Education: Graduated with honors from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory in 1967, where he studied double bass and cello.
Career:
Since 1968, he worked in the symphony orchestra of the Moscow State Philharmonic.
In 1979, he co-founded the Moscow Virtuosi orchestra with violinist Vladimir Spivakov and served as its director from 2003 to 2019.
He has performed with many of the world's most renowned musicians, including Mstislav Rostropovich, Sviatoslav Richter, and Vladimir Spivakov.
He has also released many recordings and regularly gives concerts and masterclasses around the world.

Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1999).
People's Artist of the Russian Federation (2006).
