Peter Isaac
Peter Isaac is a prominent low brass specialist, composer, arranger, and educator in the Chicago music scene. Born in Rochester, NY, he was exposed to jazz and improvisation at an early age, influenced by the music of Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, and Miles Davis. Despite his jazz inclinations, he also pursued classical music, earning a Bachelor's degree in Bass Trombone performance from SUNY Fredonia in 2013, studying under Jeff Dee of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
Peter furthered his education with a Master's in Jazz Performance from Purchase Conservatory in 2017, learning from jazz icons like Jon Faddis, Todd Coolman, and John Abercrombie. During his time in New York City, he freelanced with various groups, including the Greg Ruvolo Collective, Princeton Symphony, and the Jason Marshall Big Band, performing at prestigious venues such as Minton’s, Blue Note, and Carnegie Hall.
In 2018, Peter joined the Broadway National Tour of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” touring the US, Mexico, and Canada as a Broadway “Pit” musician. His travels brought him to New Orleans, where he fell in love with the city and its jazz heritage. He eventually moved there, becoming a fixture in the Frenchman Street music scene from 2021 to 2023.
Back in Chicago, Peter has thrived in the jazz and big band scenes, performing with groups like the Heritage Jazz Orchestra, Blue Shift Big Band, and MOBiUS. He is also a sought-after Tuba/Sousaphonist with the Chicago Windy City Ramblers Brass Band and co-leads the NOLA trad-jazz-inspired “Do-Rights” as a vocalist.
