Hendrik Timmermann
Hendrik Timmerman, born on June 18, 1943, in the Netherlands, is a renowned Dutch conductor and organist. He began his musical journey at the age of six, studying piano and organ under the tutelage of Jac. Kort and Cor Kee. Timmerman furthered his education in organ-UM school music, choir, and orchestra conducting at the Academies of Music in Amsterdam and Hilversum, earning his first degree qualifications as a Church Musician (Cantor-Organist).
Specializing in the authentic vocal performing practice of the Baroque era, Timmerman is known for his performances of major vocal works by J.S. Bach, including the Matthäus Passion (BWV 244), Mass in B minor (BWV 232), motets, and numerous cantatas, often featuring boy's and young men's voices. His career includes frequent choir and organ concert tours across Europe and America.
In addition to his performance career, Timmerman serves as the Cantor of the "Grote- of St. Laurenskerk" in Alkmaar, leads the Scola Cantorum of the "St. Laurenskerk," and conducts the Noordhollands Jongenskoor. He is also active as a concert organist and composer. His work is documented in the liner notes of the album 'J.S. Bach: Matthäus-Passion' conducted by him, released by Point Productions in 1993.
