Alfred Scholz
Alfred Scholz was a notable figure in the world of classical music, primarily recognized for his role as a record producer and conductor. Born on February 11, 1920, in Braunau, Czechoslovakia, Scholz pursued his early musical education in Prague, studying violin under Kalliwoda and Willibald Schweyda. He further honed his conducting skills with Hans Swarowsky in Vienna. Throughout his career, Scholz gave over 300 recitals across Germany and internationally.

In 1960, Scholz established his own studio at Schloss Klessheim in Salzburg, Austria. From this base, he focused extensively on conducting and producing records, amassing a prolific output of over 300 discs from 1974 onwards. However, Scholz's career was also marked by controversy due to his involvement in the production of budget recordings. He often used pseudonyms, such as Alberto Lizzio, and attributed recordings to non-existent artists and orchestras. This practice involved repurposing older performances, sometimes conducted by himself or others like Milan Horvat and Carl Melles, to create inexpensive classical music recordings for the mass market.

Alfred Scholz passed away on August 11, 1999, leaving behind a complex legacy that intertwines genuine musical contributions with a history of pseudonymous and sometimes fraudulent recording practices.
