Anton Nanut
Anton Nanut was a distinguished Slovenian conductor born on September 13, 1932, in Kanal ob Soci, Slovenia. He studied at the Ljubljana Music Academy and began his career as the conductor of the Dubrovnik City Orchestra. During his tenure in Dubrovnik, he gained recognition as a guest conductor in cities such as London, Prague, and Warsaw, and toured with his orchestra in Hungary, Italy, and Austria.

Nanut later became the leading conductor of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra in Ljubljana and headed the conducting department at the Ljubljana Music Academy. His career further advanced when he was appointed chief conductor of the Slovenian Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1981, a position he held until 1999. Under his leadership, the orchestra toured extensively across Europe and the United States, including a notable performance at Carnegie Hall.

Renowned for his interpretive skills, Nanut collaborated with over 200 orchestras and made more than 200 recordings. His repertoire included works by composers such as Vivaldi, Beethoven, Mahler, Bizet, Mascagni, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich. He also served as the artistic director and conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra Udine in Italy from 1996.

Nanut received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the Prešeren Award, the highest cultural honor in Slovenia, for his lifetime achievements. He was also honored with awards such as the Milka Trnina Award, the Župančič Award, and high state decorations from Slovenia and Croatia.

Anton Nanut passed away on January 13, 2017, in Šempeter pri Gorici, Slovenia, after a long illness, leaving behind a legacy of musical excellence and a profound impact on the world of classical music.
