Sergei Roldugin
Sergei Pavlovich Roldugin, born on September 28, 1951, in Sakhalin, Russian SFSR, is a renowned Russian cellist and businessman. He is a close friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin and has been implicated in several money laundering and offshore wealth schemes for Russian elites, notably revealed in the Panama Papers. Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Roldugin was sanctioned by the European Union.

Roldugin's early life saw him moving to Riga, Latvia, where he became fluent in Latvian. He has a notable music career, having won the 3rd prize at the 1980 Prague Spring International Music Festival Competition and serving as the principal cellist for the Kirov Opera Theatre Orchestra. He also held a professorship at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and was the rector from 2002 to 2005. Roldugin is recognized as a People's Artist of Russia and has been involved in the oil and media business since the 1990s. He is known for initiating the renovation of the Alexis Palace as a music school and performing at the ruins of Palmyra after its reconquest from ISIL. He plays the Stuart cello made by Antonio Stradivari in 1732, which cost him $12 million.

Roldugin's relationship with Vladimir Putin is significant; he is the godfather to Putin's older daughter, Maria Vorontsova, and has been friends with Putin since the late 1970s. He introduced Putin to his future wife, Lyudmila, and has been described as "Putin's best friend."
