Mark Drobinsky
Mark Drobinsky is a distinguished cellist born in Baku, Russia. He studied under the legendary Mstislav Rostropovich at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and won first prize at the International Competition of Munich. Drobinsky taught at the Gnessin Institute before leaving the USSR in 1974, moving first to Israel and eventually settling in Paris. Known for his mastery of the cello, he is celebrated for his performances at prestigious festivals worldwide. While he excels in the classical repertoire, Drobinsky is also a passionate advocate for 20th-century music, performing works by composers such as H. Sauguet, H. Dutilleux, and A. Schnittke. He has collaborated with renowned musicians including Martha Argerich and Misha Majsky, and performed under the baton of esteemed conductors like Valery Gergiev and Charles Dutoit. Drobinsky has been a regular participant in the Martha Argerich Festival in Lugano and has played at notable venues such as Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. His discography includes recordings with labels like EMI and Talents-Record. Additionally, he has conducted master-classes globally, sharing his expertise with students in countries like South Korea, Monaco, and Brazil. Drobinsky plays on a historic Italian cello crafted by Carlo Antonio Testore in 1748.
