Natalia Volchenko
The Georgian mezzo-soprano Natalia Volchenko was born in Tbilisi in 1971 and studied singing at the Tbilisi State Conservatory with Prof. Svetlana Egorova until 1995. There were also master classes with Galina Vishnevskaya, Elena Obratzova, Makvala Kasrashvili, Zurab Sotkilava, Gegam Grigoryan and Teimuraz Gugusgvili. In 1993 she made her stage debut as Amneris (Aida) at the State Opera and Ballet Theater in Tbilisi, where she has been a member of the ensemble ever since. Her repertoire includes Eboli (Don Carlos), Azucena (Il Trovatore), Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera), Fricka (Valkyrie), Senta (The Flying Dutchman) and Dalila (Samson et Dalila).
In 2011 she defended her doctoral thesis in musicology with Prof. Eldar Getsadze and has been the author of scientific articles in international journals ever since. Currently she is an associate professor at the Tbilisi State Conservatory and a vocal teacher at the E. Mikeladze Central Music School.
