David Whitfield
David Whitfield was a prominent British tenor vocalist born on February 2, 1925, in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. He gained fame in the early 1950s and became the first British male artist to achieve a number one single in the UK with "Answer Me" in November 1953. Whitfield's career began after his service in the Royal Navy during World War II, where he entertained fellow servicemen. Post-war, he participated in the talent show Opportunity Knocks, which led to further opportunities in entertainment.

Whitfield's success continued with several hits in the 1950s, making him the most successful British male singer in America during that time. He was the first British male vocalist to earn a gold disc and the first to reach the Top Ten of the Billboard Top 100 in the United States. His notable recordings include "Cara Mia," which spent ten weeks at the top of the UK charts, and "I'll Find You," the theme for the film "Sea Wife."

Throughout his career, Whitfield performed globally and appeared on prestigious platforms such as The Ed Sullivan Show and the Royal Command Performance in 1954. Despite his international success, he continued to reside in Hull. David Whitfield passed away from a brain hemorrhage on January 15, 1980, in Sydney, Australia, while on tour.
