Daniel Pollack, born on January 23, 1935, in Los Angeles, California, is a distinguished American pianist. A child prodigy, Pollack began his piano studies at the age of four and made his debut with the New York Philharmonic at nine, performing Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1. He is a graduate of the Juilliard School, where he studied under the legendary Rosina Lhévinne. His advanced studies took him to the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna under a Fulbright scholarship with Bruno Seidlhofer, the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena with Guido Agosti, and masterclasses with Wilhelm Kempff and Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli in Italy.

Pollack first gained international recognition as a prize-winner in the 1958 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. He became the first American to record for the Melodiya label in the Soviet Union, with his recordings selling millions of copies over the decades. His concert career has spanned five continents, performing with major orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Moscow State Philharmonic, among others. Pollack has graced prestigious venues worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, Royal Festival Hall, and Vienna's Musikverein.

In addition to his performance career, Pollack has served on juries for numerous international piano competitions, including the Tchaikovsky and Queen Elizabeth competitions. He has held teaching positions at institutions such as The Juilliard School, Columbia University, and Yale School of Music, and is a professor at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. His discography includes recordings for labels like NAXOS, Sony, and Columbia, with notable releases such as the Grammy-nominated complete solo piano works of Samuel Barber.
