Choir Prima
Gia Maione Prima (May 20, 1941 – September 23, 2013) was an American singer known for her work with her husband, the celebrated jazz musician Louis Prima. Born in Roebling, New Jersey, Gia showed an early talent for music, beginning piano and vocal training at the age of four under the tutelage of Alma Steedman at Westminster Choir College. After graduating from Toms River High in 1959, where she received the National Arion Society Award in Music, Gia planned to attend the Juilliard School of Music. To support her studies, she worked at a local Howard Johnson's Restaurant while continuing her music training.

Gia's career took a significant turn in 1962 when she became the lead female vocalist for Louis Prima and his band, The Witnesses. Her voice complemented Prima's jazz style, and together they performed extensively across the United States, including notable venues in Las Vegas and New York, and appeared on popular television shows like The Ed Sullivan Show and The Tonight Show. Gia released her debut album, "This is Gia," in 1965 with Capitol Records.

Gia married Louis Prima on February 12, 1963, and they had two children, Lena and Louis Jr. Together, they founded the Prima Magnagroove record label and produced numerous albums and singles until Louis fell ill in 1975. After his passing in 1978, Gia managed his musical legacy, overseeing the remastering and re-release of his work and licensing his music for various media, including the memorable Gap Khakis Swing ads.

Beyond her musical endeavors, Gia was active in charity work, organizing benefit events and establishing the Gia Maione Prima Foundation in 2011 to support American jazz and popular music. She was inducted into the Toms River Regional Schools Hall of Fame in 2004 and continued to contribute to the music industry through Prima Music, LLC. Gia Maione Prima passed away on September 23, 2013, and is buried alongside her husband in New Orleans, Louisiana.
