Litauisches Kammerorchester
The Litauisches Kammerorchester, also known as the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra (LKO), is a chamber orchestra based in Vilnius, Lithuania. It was founded in 1960 by Saulius Sondeckis, who served as its artistic director and chief conductor until 2004. The orchestra's inaugural performance took place on April 30, 1960. The LKO is known for performing works by Lithuanian composers as well as international artists like Alfred Schnittke, Arvo Pärt, and Peteris Vasks. In 2008, violinist Sergei Krylow was appointed to the orchestra. The LKO was the first Lithuanian orchestra to debut in the West, performing at the Echternach Festival in Luxembourg in 1976. It has toured extensively across Europe, the USA, Japan, Argentina, Cuba, Canada, Egypt, and South Africa, and has performed in prestigious venues such as the Vienna Musikverein, Royal Festival Hall in London, Santa Cecilia in Rome, Auditorium di Milano in Milan, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
