Hugo Peretti
Hugo E. Peretti (December 6, 1916 – May 1, 1986) was an influential American songwriter, trumpeter, and record producer. Born in New York City to an Italian American family, Peretti began his music career as a teenager playing the trumpet in the Borscht Belt of upstate New York. He progressed to playing with orchestras and, in the 1950s, partnered with his cousin Luigi Creatore to form the Hugo & Luigi songwriting and production team.

In 1957, Peretti and Creatore joined Roulette Records, where they wrote and produced major hits for artists such as Jimmie Rodgers, including "Honeycomb" and "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine." In 1959, they signed with RCA Records, producing for artists like Perry Como, Sam Cooke, and Ray Peterson. They notably co-wrote "Can't Help Falling in Love" for Elvis Presley and adapted "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" for The Tokens.

In the 1970s, Peretti and Creatore co-owned Avco Records and later founded H&L Records, achieving success with The Stylistics and The Softones. They won a Grammy Award in 1977 for Best Musical Theater Album as producers of "Bubbling Brown Sugar."

Peretti married singer June Winters in 1943, and they launched Mayfair Records, a children's label. They had two daughters, Kathy and Tina Marie. Hugo Peretti passed away in Englewood, New Jersey, at the age of 69.
