Will J. Harris
Will J. Harris was a lyricist, producer, and director active in the early 20th century. Born in 1900, Harris is best known for writing the lyrics to Victor Young's "Sweet Sue (Just You)" in 1928, a song that gained widespread popularity and was recorded by notable artists such as Django Reinhardt, Ruby Braff, Bix Beiderbecke, Louis Armstrong, Jack Lemmon, and Tiny Tim. Prior to this, in 1926, Johnny Hamp’s Kentucky Serenaders recorded his song "Pretty Cinderella." Although ASCAP credits Harris with several other tunes, none matched the success of "Sweet Sue." Apart from his work as a lyricist, Harris was also involved in vaudeville as a director and producer. Despite his contributions to music, little else is known about his life and career.
