Moby
Richard Melville Hall, professionally known as Moby, was born on September 11, 1965, in New York City. He is an influential American musician, songwriter, record producer, DJ, and animal rights activist. Moby's music spans various genres, including electronic, trip hop, house, downtempo, ambient, alternative rock, techno, punk rock, chill-out, and electronic rock. He began playing guitar and piano at the age of nine and spent much of the 1980s performing with underground punk rock bands before transitioning to electronic dance music.

Moby's breakthrough came with his 1991 single "Go," which achieved significant success in Europe. Throughout the 1990s, he released several top 10 hits on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart and gained recognition for his critically acclaimed album "Everything Is Wrong" (1995). However, his punk-oriented album "Animal Rights" (1996) alienated some fans.

His fifth album, "Play" (1999), marked a turning point, becoming a global hit after its tracks were widely licensed for films, TV shows, and commercials. "Play" sold 12 million copies and remains his highest-selling album. The single "South Side," featuring Gwen Stefani, became his only track to reach the US Billboard Hot 100.

Moby continued to explore diverse musical styles in subsequent albums, including "18" (2002), "Hotel" (2005), and "Last Night" (2008). His later works, such as "Long Ambients 1: Calm. Sleep." (2016), delved into ambient music. As of 2023, Moby has released 21 studio albums, with "Resound NYC" being the latest.

Beyond music, Moby is a committed vegan and animal rights advocate. He owned vegan cafes and organized the Circle V festival. He has authored four books, including memoirs "Porcelain" (2016) and "Then It Fell Apart" (2019). Known for his introspective and intellectual approach, Moby remains a significant figure in the music industry.
