Andreas von Holst
Andreas von Holst, known by his stage name Kuddel, is a prominent German musician and guitarist, born on June 11, 1964, in Münster, Germany. He is best known as a guitarist and songwriter for the influential rock band Die Toten Hosen. Kuddel grew up in the Düsseldorf district of Derendorf and began playing guitar at an early age. Despite initial challenges as a left-handed player, he eventually mastered the instrument and became a key figure in the band.
In 1980, at the age of sixteen, Kuddel joined the early German punk band ZK, which later evolved into Die Toten Hosen in 1982. He left school to pursue his musical career and has remained with the band ever since. Die Toten Hosen, initially a chaotic punk rock group, rose to become one of Germany's most successful rock bands, known for their live performances and political activism against racism and antisemitism.
Throughout his career, Kuddel has faced personal challenges, including overcoming alcohol problems in the 1980s and 1990s. He is now abstinent and maintains a significant collection of left-handed guitars. Kuddel has also been involved in various musical projects outside Die Toten Hosen, including the band Inbase.
Kuddel currently resides in Mettmann with his wife Simona and their dachshund Rosine. He is recognized not only for his contributions to music but also for his culinary skills and extensive tattoos. Die Toten Hosen continue to be a cultural and musical force, with Kuddel as a central figure in their enduring legacy.
