America
America is a British-American rock band formed in London in 1970 by Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley. The trio, sons of U.S. Air Force personnel stationed in London, met at London Central High School and began performing live together. Known for their close vocal harmonies and light acoustic folk rock sound, America achieved significant popularity in the 1970s.

Their self-titled debut album, released in 1971, included the transatlantic hits "A Horse with No Name" and "I Need You." Their second album, Homecoming (1972), featured the single "Ventura Highway." The band continued to release successful songs throughout the 1970s, such as "Muskrat Love," "Tin Man," "Lonely People," "Sister Golden Hair," and "Daisy Jane." In 1975, they released History: America's Greatest Hits, a compilation that achieved multi-platinum status in the United States and Australia.

After Dan Peek left the group in 1977, America's commercial success waned, although they returned to the top 10 in 1982 with "You Can Do Magic." Their last Top 40 hit was "The Border" in 1983. Despite these changes, the group continued to record and tour, collaborating with new musicians on their 2007 album Here & Now.

America won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1973 and were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2006. They received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012. The band remains active, with Bunnell and Beckley continuing to perform and record.
