Drafi Deutscher
Drafi Franz Richard Deutscher, born on May 9, 1946, in Charlottenburg, Berlin, Germany, was a prominent German singer, songwriter, and music producer of Sinti origin. He rose to fame in the mid-1960s with a series of hits, most notably the 1965 Schlager song "Marmor, Stein und Eisen bricht" ("Marble, Stone and Iron Break"), which sold over one million copies and earned a golden record. This song also found success in the United States under the title "Marble Breaks and Iron Bends," peaking at No. 80 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Deutscher's career faced a significant setback in 1967 due to a conviction for public indecency, which led to his withdrawal from the public eye as a performer. During this period, he continued to work in the music industry, writing and producing hits for artists like Tina Rainford, Boney M, and Nino de Angelo under various pseudonyms.

In the mid-1980s, Deutscher experienced a comeback, notably with the duo Mixed Emotions alongside Oliver Simon, achieving success with hits like "You Want Love (Maria, Maria ...)." Despite health challenges, including strokes and a diagnosis of diabetes, he remained active in music and charity work until his death from heart failure on June 9, 2006, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He was married three times and had twin sons with his first wife, Karin. Drafi Deutscher's legacy endures through his contributions to the German Schlager music scene and his influence on the pop music landscape.
