Edward Bello
Edward E. Bello Pou, known professionally as El Cata, is a Dominican singer, songwriter, and rapper born in Barahona, Dominican Republic. He is recognized for his contributions to Latin music, particularly in the genres of merengue and hip hop. El Cata began his music career in 1999 and is a pioneer of the electro-mambo genre, which blends merengue with hip-hop.
El Cata moved to Puerto Rico at the age of five and then to Miami, Florida, where he completed his high school education at Miami Beach Senior High School. He later studied music at Bronx Community College in New York. During his time in the United States, he worked various jobs, including at a furniture store and in the Medicare department, before returning to the Dominican Republic to pursue music full-time.
In 2009, El Cata released his official debut studio album "El Malo," which featured singles like "Loca Con Su Tiguere," "Pa' la Esquinita," and "El Que Brilla Brilla." He gained international recognition when Colombian singer Shakira covered his single "Loca," and he was featured on the Spanish version of her track "Rabiosa." El Cata has collaborated with numerous artists, including Pitbull, Gloria Estefan, and Wyclef Jean.
El Cata's music has earned him nominations in international music awards, and he has released over 130 songs. He is also known for his entrepreneurial ventures, including a line of watches bearing his name.
