Anne Clark
Anne Charlotte Clark, born on May 14, 1960, in South London to an Irish mother and a Scottish father, is a renowned English poet, singer, and songwriter. Leaving school at 16, Clark's early career included working as a care assistant at Cane Hill psychiatric hospital and at Bonaparte Records, a local independent record store and label. This period coincided with the rise of the punk rock scene in London, which greatly influenced her musical direction.

Clark's unique blend of literary, socially engaged texts with innovative music has positioned her as a significant figure in contemporary music for over 45 years. Her debut album, "The Sitting Room," was released in 1982, and she has since produced over a dozen albums. Her work spans genres such as new wave, dark wave, electronic, and avant-garde, often characterized by a blend of hard, romantic, and orchestral styles.

Primarily a spoken word artist, Clark's lyrics often critique the imperfections of humanity, everyday life, and politics, creating a melancholic atmosphere in her early works. She is considered a pioneer in the spoken-word music genre and is acclaimed for her contributions to synth-pop and new wave music, especially in Europe.

Throughout her career, Clark has collaborated with various artists and producers, consistently seeking new forms of expression. Notable projects include her reinterpretation of Rainer Maria Rilke’s poetry on "Just After Sunset" (1997) and her electronic work on "The Smallest Acts Of Kindness" (2008). In 2010, she launched her label, After Hours Productions, and released "Past & Future Tense," inviting new artists to reinterpret her work.

Clark's collaborations extend to arranging poetry for audiobooks and radio plays, such as her work on Charles Baudelaire's "Enivrez-Vous" and Emily Brontë's poems. Her projects have received critical acclaim, including the Deutscher Hörbuch Preis in 2012.

Anne Clark continues to perform and explore her electronic roots, maintaining a dynamic presence in the music industry.
