Simon Diaz
Simón Narciso Díaz Márquez (1928-2014) was a Venezuelan singer-songwriter, composer, musician, comedian, and television presenter, regarded as one of the most important folklorists of his country. Affectionately known as "Tío Simón," he revolutionized traditional Venezuelan music by bringing the llanera tune to international audiences. Born in Barbacoas, Aragua state, Díaz began his artistic career in radio during the 1950s, where he also developed his skills as a comedian. His most famous composition, "Caballo Viejo" (1980), has been covered by over 200 artists.
