The Animals
The Animals are an English rock band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1962. The original lineup included Eric Burdon (vocals), Alan Price (keyboards), Hilton Valentine (guitar), Chas Chandler (bass), and John Steel (drums). Known for their gritty, bluesy sound, they were part of the British Invasion of the US and became famous for their transatlantic number-one hit "The House of the Rising Sun." Other notable hits include "We Gotta Get Out of This Place," "It's My Life," and "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood." The band underwent numerous lineup changes and eventually split in 1966. Eric Burdon formed a new group, Eric Burdon and the Animals, which embraced psychedelic and progressive rock, producing hits like "San Franciscan Nights" and "Sky Pilot." The original lineup reunited for brief periods, including a benefit concert in 1968, and released albums in the 1970s and 1980s. The Animals were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
