Fred Fassert
Fred Fassert, born in 1935, is an American songwriter best known for his composition "Barbara Ann." The song was originally written for The Regents, the band he was part of at the time. In 1961, "Barbara Ann" reached #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It gained further popularity when covered by the Beach Boys on their 1965 album "Beach Boys' Party!", with their version reaching #2 on the Billboard chart. Fassert wrote the song for his sister, Barbara Ann Fassert. His brother, Chuck Fassert, was the original second tenor of The Regents. Additionally, the tune of "Barbara Ann" was used by Vince Vance and the Valiants for their 1980 hit "Bomb Iran," which was inspired by the Iran hostage crisis, crediting Fassert as the composer.
