James Newton Howard
James Newton Howard, born on June 9, 1951, in Los Angeles, California, is a renowned American film composer, orchestrator, and music producer. Coming from a musical family, Howard began classical piano lessons at the age of four. He attended the Thacher School and the Music Academy of the West before briefly studying at the University of Southern California's School of Music. However, he left college to pursue other interests, joining the rock band Mama Lion and later working as a session musician with artists like Diana Ross and Ringo Starr.
Howard's career took a significant turn in 1975 when he joined Elton John's band as a keyboardist, touring with them and arranging strings for several of John's songs. Transitioning to film composition, Howard has scored over 100 films, earning a Grammy, an Emmy, and nine Academy Award nominations. His notable works include scores for "Pretty Woman," "The Fugitive," "Space Jam," "Batman Begins," and "The Dark Knight," among others. Howard has collaborated extensively with directors like M. Night Shyamalan and Francis Lawrence and has been influential in the film music industry since the 1980s.
