Bond
Bond is an Australian/British string quartet known for their classical crossover and synth-pop music. Formed in London, the group has been active since 2000 and has sold five million albums worldwide. The current members include Tania Davis (first violin), Eos Counsell (second violin), Elspeth Hanson (viola), and Gay-Yee Westerhoff (cello). Haylie Ecker, the original first violinist, left the group in 2008.
The quartet was initially conceived by composer Mike Batt and promoter Mel Bush, who sought to create a group of "four beautiful, talented musicians." Bond's debut album, "Born," was initially removed from the UK classical chart for sounding too much like pop music, yet it eventually reached number one on 21 international charts. Their second album, "Shine," achieved gold status in six countries, and their third album, "Classified," went double platinum in Australia.
Bond has gained popularity through extensive touring, particularly in Asia, and has made appearances at events such as Miss Universe 2003. They have also been featured in commercials for brands like Marshall Field's and Daiichi Kosho. The quartet continues to perform and release music, maintaining a significant presence in the classical crossover genre.
