Lionel Bart
Lionel Bart, born Lionel Begleiter, was a renowned musical artist from London’s East End. The son of Galician Jewish refugees, he spent his childhood in a tailor’s tiny garden shed. Despite not being able to read or write music, Bart was recognized as a musical genius by a teacher during his early years. He abandoned violin lessons to pursue greater ambitions, eventually achieving fame for writing one of the most legendary musicals of all time. Among his popular works are songs from the musical "Oliver!" such as "As Long As He Needs Me," "You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket or Two," and "Consider Yourself."
