The Real Thing
The Real Thing are a British soul group formed in the 1970s in Liverpool, England. The original lineup consisted of Chris Amoo, Dave Smith, Kenny Davis, and Ray Lake. They gained international recognition with their hit song "You to Me Are Everything," which reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart. The group also found success with other British hits like "Can't Get By Without You" and "Can You Feel the Force?". In 1986, they returned to the mainstream with the Decade Remix of "You to Me Are Everything." The Real Thing was the most successful black rock/soul act in England during the 1970s by number of sales. Paul Du Noyer, a journalist and founder of Mojo magazine, credited them alongside Deaf School for restoring Liverpool's musical reputation during that era. Despite lineup changes, including the departure of Kenny Davis and the addition of Chris Amoo's brother Eddie, the band continued to produce music and perform. They collaborated with David Essex and toured internationally, achieving several more UK hits throughout their career.
