Tommy Edwards
Tommy Edwards (1922–1969) was a notable American singer and songwriter, best remembered for his 1958 hit single “It’s All in the Game.” Born Thomas Jefferson Edwards on October 15, 1922, in Henrico County, Virginia, he was the son of Thomas Jefferson Edwards and Buena Vista Williams Edwards. Edwards displayed musical talent early in life, hosting a radio show in Richmond during his teenage years. By 1943, he had relocated to New York City, where he began writing songs, including the hit “That Chick’s Too Young to Fry.”
Edwards formed the Tommy Edwards Trio in the late 1940s and released several recordings. Despite initial challenges in his recording career, he found success with MGM Records, where his style was often compared to Nat King Cole. His career peaked with the release of “It’s All in the Game,” which topped the charts and led to further success with other singles and television appearances. However, as musical tastes evolved, his popularity waned. Edwards’s signature song remains a classic and continues to be featured in various music compilations.
