Albert Hammond
Albert Louis Hammond, born on May 18, 1944, in London, England, is a renowned pop/rock singer, songwriter, and record producer. Raised in Gibraltar after his family returned there post-World War II, Hammond became fluent in both English and Spanish. His early musical endeavors began in 1958, performing in a duo with Richard Cartwright, and later as a member of The Diamond Boys, a band that played a role in introducing pop and rock music to Spain.

In 1966, Hammond co-founded the British vocal group Family Dogg, achieving a Top 10 UK hit with "A Way of Life." His move to the United States in 1970 marked the beginning of a prolific songwriting career. Hammond's 1972 hit "It Never Rains in Southern California" reached number five on the US pop charts and sold a million copies worldwide, establishing his reputation as a solo artist.

Hammond's songwriting prowess is evident in his collaborations with various artists, producing hits for The Hollies, Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, and many more. His notable compositions include "The Air That I Breathe," "One Moment in Time," and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now." He also achieved significant success with Spanish-language albums in Spain during the late 1970s.

In recognition of his contributions to music, Hammond was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2008 and received the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection in 2015. His son, Albert Hammond Jr., is a member of the band The Strokes. Hammond continues to influence the music industry with his enduring legacy as both a performer and a songwriter.
