Dinah Shore
Dinah Shore, originally named Frances Rose Shore, was born on February 29, 1916, in Winchester, Tennessee, and passed away on February 24, 1994, in Beverly Hills, California. An American singer and television personality, Shore was celebrated for her sunny disposition and Southern charm, which she combined with her sultry contralto voice to captivate audiences for over 40 years. She gained fame with hits like “Blues in the Night,” “I’ll Walk Alone,” and “Buttons and Bows.”

After graduating from Vanderbilt University in 1938 with a degree in sociology, Shore sang with Frank Sinatra on New York radio and made her recording debut with Xavier Cugat’s orchestra in 1939. Between 1940 and 1955, she recorded 75 hits, including “Yes, My Darling Daughter” and “The Anniversary Song.” Shore also starred on Eddie Cantor’s radio show and appeared in films before finding success on television.

In 1951, she launched The Dinah Shore Show, followed by The Dinah Shore Chevy Show (1956–63), where she popularized the jingle “See the USA in Your Chevrolet.” Shore won six Emmy Awards and was a beloved television host on shows like Dinah’s Place, Dinah, Dinah and Friends, and A Conversation with Dinah.

Shore was married to actor George Montgomery and briefly to tennis player Maurice Smith. Her romance with actor Burt Reynolds in the 1970s drew public attention. A passionate tennis player and golfer, she also sponsored a professional golf tournament.
