Kaoma
Kaoma was a French-Brazilian band formed in 1989, known for popularizing the lambada genre in Europe. The band was created by French producers Jean Karakos and Olivier Lorsac after they discovered the lambada style in Brazil. Kaoma's most famous hit, "Lambada," released in 1989, became an international sensation, topping charts worldwide. The song was a cover of Márcia Ferreira's "Chorando Se Foi," itself an adaptation of Los Kjarkas' "Llorando se fue," leading to legal disputes over plagiarism.

The band consisted of members from various backgrounds, including lead singer Loalwa Braz from Brazil, Chyco Dru from Martinique, and Jacky Arconte from Guadeloupe. Kaoma released three albums: "Worldbeat" (1989), "Tribal Pursuit" (1991), and "A la media noche" (1998). Despite their initial success, the band faced challenges, including lawsuits and accusations of plagiarism. Kaoma disbanded in 1999 but briefly reformed from 2006 to 2009. The band's legacy remains tied to the global lambada dance craze of the late 1980s.
