Peter Allen
Peter Allen was an Australian singer, actor, and songwriter born in Tenterfield, Australia, in 1944. His early life was marked by tragedy when his father, a World War II veteran who struggled with alcoholism, committed suicide in 1958. Following this, Allen moved with his mother and siblings to Lismore to live with relatives, including a grandfather who was deeply affected by his son's death. Allen's personal history is reflected in his song "Tenterfield Saddler." He gained fame for writing the soundtrack for the jukebox musical "The Boy From Oz," which premiered on Broadway eleven years after his death. Peter Allen passed away from AIDS in 1992. Some of his popular songs include "I Still Call Australia Home," "Tenterfield Saddler," and "I Go to Rio." His notable albums include "Bi-Coastal" (1980), "I Could Have Been A Sailor" (1979), and "Taught by Experts" (1976).
