                            Tania Maria, born Tania Maria Correa Reis on May 9, 1948, in São Luís, Maranhão, Brazil, is a renowned Brazilian musician, singer, composer, and bandleader. She began playing the piano at the age of seven and became a bandleader by 13, winning a local music contest with her band organized by her father. Her music, which she performs mostly in Portuguese or English, blends Brazilian styles with jazz, pop, samba, bossa nova, and Afro-Latin influences.
Maria's early albums, "Apresentamos" (1966) and "Olha Quem Chega" (1971), were released in Brazil. Her international career took off after she moved to Paris in 1974. Her 1983 album "Come With Me" became a breakthrough, with the title track becoming a dance-floor classic. The following albums, including "Love Explosion" (1984) and "Made in New York" (1985), further solidified her global popularity.
Throughout her career, Tania Maria has performed at major jazz festivals worldwide and appeared on numerous television and radio programs. She has recorded over 25 albums and was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1985 for "Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Female."
