Emil Schult
Emil Schult, born on October 10, 1946, in Dessau, Germany, is a renowned German painter, poet, and audio-visual artist. He is most famous for his collaborations with the pioneering electronic music band Kraftwerk. Schult studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Art in Düsseldorf under influential artists such as Dieter Roth, Joseph Beuys, and Gerhard Richter, achieving the title of 'Meisterschüler' under Richter in 1973.

In the early 1970s, Schult began his collaboration with Kraftwerk, contributing to the visual and lyrical elements of the band. He created iconic album artwork for albums like "Autobahn," "Radio-Activity," "Trans-Europe Express," and "Computer World," and co-wrote lyrics for several of their songs, including the UK number 1 hit "The Model." Schult briefly played guitar for Kraftwerk before focusing on his strengths in visual arts and lyrics as the band transitioned to a synth-based sound.

Beyond his work with Kraftwerk, Schult has explored various artistic mediums, including reverse glass painting, video, and computer-animated images. His artistic endeavors often reflect themes of technological evolution and electronic innovation. Schult's academic contributions include teaching roles and a commission to create a crypt for the Robert-Schumann Music Academy in Düsseldorf.

In the late 1970s, Schult expanded his expertise in electronic music at Stanford University, where he interacted with pioneers like Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs. He later moved to the Bahamas, where he lived in a geodesic dome for 12 years to escape the technological overload and reconnect with nature.

As of 2014, Emil Schult holds the position of Randall International Chair at Alfred University's School of Art and Design, where he continues to influence the next generation of artists. His work has been exhibited internationally, and he remains a significant figure in the intersection of art and electronic music.
