Marty Symes
Marty Symes (1904–1953) was an American lyricist known for his significant contributions to the jazz and popular music repertoire of the 20th century. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Symes collaborated with composer Jerry Livingston early in his career, producing hits such as "Darkness on the Delta" in 1932, which became popular through Mildred Bailey's recording. In 1933, Symes co-wrote "Under a Blanket of Blue" and "It's the Talk of the Town" with Livingston and Al J. Neiburg, both of which were recorded by the Casa Loma Orchestra and became widely recognized.

Symes achieved further acclaim with the 1936 song "There Is No Greater Love," composed with Isham Jones. This song was recorded by numerous artists, including Guy Lombardo and Billie Holiday, and has become a jazz standard. Another notable work, "I Have But One Heart," composed with Johnny Farrow, was featured in the 1972 film The Godfather, arranged by Nino Rota.

Despite a relatively small output, Symes's work left a lasting impact, with several of his songs becoming enduring standards in the jazz and popular music genres. Marty Symes passed away in Forest Hills, New York, in 1953.
