Pery Ribeiro, born Peri Oliveira Martins on October 27, 1937, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was a prominent Brazilian singer known for his contributions to bossa nova, MPB, and jazz. He was the son of renowned singer Dalva de Oliveira and singer-songwriter Herivelto Martins. Ribeiro began his artistic career as a child, dubbing the title character in the Walt Disney film "Bambi" and participating in the unfinished Orson Welles project "It's All True." He also appeared in the 1944 musical comedy film "Berlim na batucada."

Ribeiro's singing career took off in 1959 when he transitioned from working as a camera operator to performing on Rádio Nacional, adopting the stage name Pery Ribeiro. His first record came in 1960, and he quickly became known for his recordings of bossa nova classics, including being one of the first to record "Garota de Ipanema" in 1963. Throughout his career, Ribeiro released numerous albums, with a significant focus on bossa nova, and performed internationally.

In addition to his musical achievements, Ribeiro co-authored a memoir with his wife, Ana Duarte, titled "Minhas duas estrelas," which was adapted into a TV miniseries. He passed away on February 24, 2012, in Rio de Janeiro, leaving behind a legacy as one of Brazil's esteemed interpreters of bossa nova.
