Jackie DeShannon
Jackie DeShannon, born Sharon Lee Myers on August 21, 1941, in Hazel, Kentucky, is a celebrated singer and songwriter known for her contributions to the music industry. Raised in a musically inclined family, she began singing on a local radio station at the age of six. The family later moved to Batavia, Illinois, where DeShannon's musical talents flourished. By age 13, she had nearly 11 years of voice training, toured the southern United States, and appeared on television multiple times. She hosted her own radio show, "Breakfast Melodies," on WMRO in Aurora, Illinois, where she performed country tunes. DeShannon is renowned for co-writing the 1969 anthem "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" and for her 1968 LP "What the World Needs Now Is Love." Despite her success, she remains less recognized than some of her contemporaries in the genres of countrified white soul and refined pop.
