Allan Pineda Lindo
Allan Pineda Lindo, known professionally as apl.de.ap, is a Filipino-American rapper, singer, and record producer born on November 28, 1974, in Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines. He is best known as a member of the Grammy Award-winning hip hop group The Black Eyed Peas. Raised by his Filipino mother, Cristina Pineda, after his African-American father left the family, Allan grew up helping his family by farming. At age 14, he moved to the United States to live with his sponsor, Joe Ben Hudgens, after being treated for nystagmus, a condition causing involuntary eye movement.
In Los Angeles, Allan attended John Marshall High School, where he met will.i.am, and together they formed the group Atban Klann, later evolving into The Black Eyed Peas. The group achieved global success, winning multiple Grammy Awards in 2005, 2006, and 2007. Allan is fluent in Tagalog and Kapampangan and has incorporated Filipino language into his music with songs like “Bebot.”
Beyond music, Allan has been active in charity work, founding the Apl Foundation in 2008 to support communities and children in the Philippines and Asia. He has also served as a coach on The Voice of the Philippines and made a guest appearance on The Voice Australia. Allan has been recognized for his charity work by the This Time Foundation in the United States. Despite being diagnosed legally blind due to nystagmus, Allan continues to inspire through his music and philanthropy.
