The London Symphony Orchestra
The London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), founded in 1904, is the oldest symphony orchestra in London. It was established by a group of musicians who left The Queen's Hall Orchestra to form a new ensemble based on cooperative principles. The LSO has been based at the Barbican Centre since 1982 and is renowned for its extensive recording history, claiming to be the world's most recorded orchestra. It has contributed to over 200 soundtrack recordings, including the iconic Star Wars series. The orchestra's early years saw performances under notable conductors such as Hans Richter and Sir Edward Elgar. Despite experiencing periods of decline in the 1930s and 1950s, the LSO regained its prominence in the 1960s, performing under the direction of esteemed conductors like André Previn and Sir Colin Davis.
