La Roux
La Roux is an English synth-pop act that originated in London, England, in 2008. The act was initially formed as a duo consisting of singer Elly Jackson and record producer Ben Langmaid. Their music is heavily influenced by 1980s synth-pop, drawing inspiration from artists like Depeche Mode and The Human League. The name "La Roux" refers to Jackson's red hair and is a blend of the masculine and feminine French terms for "red-haired one."
La Roux's debut album, "La Roux," was released in 2009 and became a critical and commercial success. It featured hit singles such as "In for the Kill" and "Bulletproof," with the latter reaching number one on the UK Singles Chart and achieving significant success in the United States. The album won a Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album.
In 2012, Ben Langmaid departed from the group, and Elly Jackson continued to use La Roux as her stage persona. She released the second album, "Trouble in Paradise," in 2014, which was critically acclaimed but did not achieve the same commercial success as their debut. Jackson released a third album, "Supervision," independently in 2020.
La Roux has been associated with several record labels, including Kitsuné, Polydor, Cherrytree, Interscope, and Supercolour. Despite changes in the act's lineup and record label affiliations, La Roux remains active in the music scene, known for its distinctive synth-pop and new wave sound.
