Nelson Y Sus Estrellas
Nelson David González Rojas, born on December 29, 1946, in Caracas, Venezuela, was a pioneering figure in the salsa music genre. Known as the "Emperador de la Salsa," he founded the iconic orchestra Nelson y sus Estrellas. His early interest in music was nurtured alongside friends and his brother Luis Felipe, forming a small amateur orchestra. In 1965, he officially established Nelson y sus Estrellas, releasing their first album, "Mucho Nelson," in 1968, which became a hit in Colombia.

Nelson moved to Colombia after realizing the country's deep appreciation for his music, making a memorable debut at the Feria de Cali in 1969. His orchestra gained international acclaim, performing across Latin America, Europe, and North America, and collaborating with renowned artists like Tito Puente and Celia Cruz. Despite health challenges and a temporary separation from his brother in 1974, Nelson continued to innovate, eventually incorporating his son into the orchestra.

Nelson y sus Estrellas left an indelible mark on salsa music, with hits like "Llorándote" and "La Sirena," the latter being recognized among the top 100 tropical songs in Colombia's history. Nelson González passed away on May 24, 2025, in Bogotá, Colombia, leaving behind a rich musical legacy that continues to resonate on dance floors worldwide.
