Grupo Niche
Grupo Niche is a renowned salsa group founded in 1978 in Cali, Colombia, by Jairo Varela and Alexis Lozano. Known for their energetic and danceable style, the band quickly rose to prominence in Colombia and across Latin America. Their debut album, "Al Pasito," was released in 1980, but it was their second album, "Querer es Poder," that brought them success, particularly with the hit single "Buenaventura y Caney." In 1984, they released "No Hay Quinto Malo," featuring their signature song "Cali Pachanguero," which solidified their status as one of Colombia's top salsa bands.
Grupo Niche is celebrated for both its lively, uptempo dance tracks and slower, romantic numbers. Among their popular hits are "Cali Aji," "Del Puente Pa'llá," "Sin Sentimientos," "Una Aventura," "Etnia," and "Gotas de Lluvia." The band has seen many lineup changes over the years, with notable members such as Tito Gómez, Charlie Cardona, and Willy Garcia. Despite the death of founder Jairo Varela in 2012, Grupo Niche continues to perform and record, maintaining their legacy as one of the most beloved salsa bands worldwide. They have received multiple awards, including a Latin Grammy in 2010 for their album "La Vuelta al Mundo."
