Jeannie C. Riley
Jeannie C. Riley, born Jeanne Carolyn Stephenson on October 19, 1945, in Anson, Texas, is an American country music and gospel singer. She rose to fame with her 1968 hit "Harper Valley PTA," which topped both the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts, making her the first woman to achieve this feat with the same song. The song earned her a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and was named the Country Music Association Single of the Year. Riley's career began after moving to Nashville, Tennessee, where she worked as a secretary while recording demos. Her success with "Harper Valley PTA" led to further hits like "The Girl Most Likely" and "Country Girl." In the mid-1970s, she became a born-again Christian and began recording gospel music. Riley was married to Mickey Riley from 1962 to 1970, and they had a daughter, Kim Michelle Riley.
